May 18 was HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. This observance is led by National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to honor the researchers and clinical study participants who play essential roles in advancing HIV vaccine development. A safe and effective preventive HIV vaccine, that has yet to be developed, is key to ending the HIV pandemic.
